Well, we have so many things to put our pride in, literally. But, is that good? Deeper than that, is that right?
“If people want to boast, they should boast about this: They should boast that they understand and know me. They should boast that they know and understand that I, the Lord, act out of faithfulness, fairness, and justice in the earth and that I desire people to do these things,” says the Lord.” – Jeremiah 9:24.
Pride is a noun, and boast is a verb that comes from pride. The scripture says that if we want to boast, we should boast that we understand and know the Lord. This is deep and interesting. We will never fully understand and know the Lord. That’s the first. His way is not ours. We can only understand and know the Lord as far as what the Bible tells us. The second thing is, it’s not by ourselves we understand and know the Lord through the Bible. It is definitely His work, through the grace of the Father, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, and the illumination from the Holy Spirit. Where are we? Just here, seated down, reading. Letting Him work greatly. We really just need to give in, surrender all to Him. The third, as long as we’re still alive, we will walk on the journey of knowing and understanding Him more and more; for He is the one who holds the stir, the Leader, the Commander. So, this boasting process is a long-life process. That’s how we will grow spiritually.
That is deep.
Besides it, this boasting process also produces self-recognizing. The more we know God and understand His will in our lives, the more we know ourselves. The more we know that God is the sovereign One on earth, the more we realize that we are just nothing without Him. This is obviously related.
Finally, we won’t ever take pride anymore in anything but in knowing and understanding Him more day by day. But, this kind of pride is different from the pride we talk above. This pride is a less-of-me-more-of-Him kind of pride. The more we know and understand Him, sure, the more gracious He is to us. This is an amazing grace kind of pride. Not because of us, but Him.
So, we take pride in knowing and understanding the Lord; that’s why we boast from grace to grace.
